About Amy & Amy Leonard Consulting

Amy has been leading and managing change her whole career, and most of her life. This has resulted in developing an advanced toolset for successfully navigating change personally, and implementing change professionally. First trained as a change professional 20 years ago, she has implemented significant change in multiple organizations across multiple industries.

Growing up with limited mobility, and learning to adapt to her environment made Amy realize that there was a solution to every obstacle. She took this to her work life and used it to build a career implementing change, and solving problems with change implementations.

Despite being a ‘change junkie’ by nature, Amy has developed a deep understanding of the issues that hold others back from embracing change. She helps those who are reluctant find their way through the changes that must be navigated in their lives and careers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you certified?

I have been studying and practicing change professionally for over 20 years. During this time, many standards have emerged for that and for other areas of my work. Although I keep myself familiar with best practice and emerging standards, such as the Prosci ADKAR® Model, Six Sigma, Project Management (PMP) and a number of other change and change related methodologies; I have not chosen to certify.

What organizations or industries do you work with?

My experience has largely been in the public sector and in retail, helping large organizations leverage technology to improve client experience. I have also worked with insurance and banking, small entrepreneurs launching their own business, and with startups. I enjoy working with entrepreneurs because they have such a vested interest in the outcome; they are fully committed to success. But larger organizations, with their complex interpersonal dynamics present unique challenges and positive results are immensely satisfying.

What is your approach to change management?

I like to meet people where they are. While I do have a vast toolbox of techniques and methodologies, I prefer to tailor the approach to the audience. If people are already change saavy and excited, then one approach is best, but if people are deeply entrenched in existing habits and culture, a different approach will be needed. Understanding people’s current state and mindset is the first stage of change management.

How do you handle resistance to change?

Participation and control. People have a hard time adjusting to a change that is done to them. If you engage them early and often, in defining, designing and implementing the change, they will be empowered to help address the resistance with you.

What tools and methodologies do you use?

As a lifelong learner, this is an ever-changing answer. I draw from best practices in change & project management, as well as psychology and human behaviour. I leverage pieces of many methodologies, as well as a few of my own, to develop a custom solution for each client; one that fits them best.

How do you measure the success of change initiatives?

The most important metrics are your client’s satisfaction, staff engagement, and management satisfaction. Also, while defining the change, we will define additional metrics that speak to the results you hope to see from the change.

Can you provide references from past clients?

Yes. I have a number of satisfied clients who can provide you additional information.
